View All →Extensions that support Internationalized Domain Names (IDN) allow non-ASCII characters to be used in a domain name.
After a domain name has been cancelled automatically or manually, many registries offer a quarantine period. During this period, the domain is no longer active but remains reserved for its holder. This gives the holder time to reverse the decision or correct an unintended cancellation. The length of the quarantine period differs by registry.
Some registries require at least one of the submitted contacts—usually the registrant or administrative contact—to have an address in the country associated with the extension. If no suitable local address is available, our trustee service can provide the address of our local contact so the domain can still be registered.
Registries that perform a zone check verify that a domain is configured correctly on the new name servers before applying them. If the configuration is missing or incorrect, an error is shown and the new name servers are not applied.
After you register or transfer a domain, or change its name servers, the registry must add the new name servers to the zone file. Some registries do this immediately; others process zone updates at fixed intervals.
Registries handle the billing and expiry date of a domain differently after a transfer. Apart from a few exceptions, there are four types:
Type 1: free
The expiry date does not change and the transfer is free. After the transfer, we retrieve the registry expiry date and use it in our system.
Type 2: reset
The remaining registration term is lost and a new one-year term starts. The transfer fee is shown on the pricing page in your account.
Type 3: extension
One year is added to the registry expiry date. The fee shown on the pricing page in your account applies. For example, a domain expiring on 18 November 2021 before the transfer will expire on 18 November 2022 afterwards.
Type 4: reset with additional fees
This works like type 2, but the transfer fee is always charged—even if the transfer fails, for example because the administrative contact did not receive or confirm the verification email.
